Very Urgent and Important

Hello all,

Please note that the SEASON 5 HAS TO BE PLAYED AGAIN. Following things have to be noted while you are playing:

1.       You are expected to SELL ONLY on this port. No buying is allowed.

2.       Crew must not be hired.

3.       The inventory left over after the sales will be liquidated at the following prices –

a.       Rice : 540

b.      Gems : 900

c.       Feathers : 1150

d.      Animal Skin : 1450

e.      Antiques : 1575

4.       You must login from only ONE TERMINAL at one point of time. Some teams have reported of issues in submitting results which can be due to multiple logins at a time.

5.       Please SAVE your data before pressing ‘SUBMIT’ for submission of final decisions.

6.       Also, you must verify the submission of your decisions by:

a.       Verifying the following confirmation message returned by the server - “Your Decisions have been successfully submitted”

b.      On trying to login after submission of decision, server will return the following message - “You have already played this port”. Teams are expected to verify this also.

7.       In case a message “Unable to load data is displayed”. Teams should ‘Quit’ that session and login again. In case any inconsistency in trade book data after login, teams should again ‘Quit’ that session and login again.

8.       DEADLINE for playing season 5 is till 12:00 Hrs (Noon), Dec 14, 2008.

9.       RESULTS (Season 6)

a.       All teams are expected to login between 12:30 Hrs – 16:00 Hrs, Dec 14, 2008 to verify the financials.

b.      If any discrepancy is observed, please mail to imperium08.nautica@gmail.com with subject line result_teamname before the deadline (16:00 Hrs).

c.       IMPORTANT: Playing both season 5 and season 6 (results) are MANDATORY for being considered for final evaluation.

10.   Any team which fails to comply with above mentioned rules shall be DISQUALIFIED.

Note : The above results are calculated after end of season 4 and before starting of season 5, so it does not include the revenue generated by selling of goods on the respective port. When you log in season 5 you see the cash balance that includes the above mentioned revenue as well. Kindly keep this in mind.

P. S. :  The team with higher cash might be carrying very less inventory. So the team falling in lower range don't get disheartened.

Congratulations on successfully cruising safely this far into the deep seas!

 

First and foremost, we have been overwhelmed and highly impressed by the depth of analysis and the efforts the teams have put in playing Nautica.

Your continued enthusiastic response is what has made Nautica such a great success.

We look forward to similar response as Nautica gets on to the final stages and the competition for being in the top slot heats up.

 

Please note that we have uploaded the results based on the ‘cash in hand’ till the end of Season 3 @ http://nauticav20.blogspot.com. The results reflect only the cash in hand and do not take into account the assets held. The overall results will be declared only at the end of Season 5. Approximately 200 teams have survived the wrath of the oceans till the end of season 3.

 

A point of caution: After logging in into a new season, do check your previous season’s sales and quantities bought. It has been observed that some teams have encountered connectivity problems because of which data doesn’t get downloaded from the server completely (the trade book shows ‘0’ or ‘undefined’ sales values). Please log off and login again into the application is such case.

Entering decisions and pressing ‘Set Sail’ for present season  when the market shares of last season have not been populated will result in disqualification.

Hi Sailors,

So game Nautica hit a difficult storm en route, but all is well now and you can resume your journey!

Yesterday, some issues of financial reporting and procurement were brought to our notice. These issues have been sorted out now and you shall see accurate figures once you login next.

It has been observed that teams have found it problematic to submit decisions by midnight deadline. Hence we are modifying the schedule for following seasons

Season 3  : Starts at 20:00 Hrs, Dec 10 – Ends at 06:00 Hrs, Dec 11

Season 4  : Starts at 12:00 Hrs (Noon), Dec 11 – Ends at 06:00 Hrs, Dec 12

Season 5  : Starts at 12:00 Hrs (Noon), Dec 12 – Ends at 06:00 Hrs, Dec 13

Result       : 13^th Evening

We request the teams to ensure submissions before 6 :00 Hrs every morning. Also, once you press "Set Sail", you should get a confirmation from the server saying "Your decisions have been submitted". If not, please try to login again and submit your decisions. Internet connectivity is of prime importance during login and submission, please ensure the same.

Kindly, note the "Set Sail" button would be replaced by "Submit" button in Season 5.

Also, another issue was reported earlier that some teams have bought the market information (empty report) in season 2. It was mentioned in the game document that this would only be available in season 3. However, the teams shall not be penalized for this. Those teams which have been charged for this report, please mail back at imperium08.nautica@gmail.com

Relative results shall be declared for season 3 on Dec 11 (evening) on Nautica blog http://nauticav20.blogspot.com. However, teams should note that this result shall be based on the cash in hand only and the assets held will not be taken into account. Therefore a low score in season 3 may not actually mean a low score in the final season.

FAQ- Must Read

Q: How should I choose my ship?

A: Each ship available for buying in the first season has its own benefits and constraints.

A larger ship has higher tonnage capacity and therefore gives the opportunity to earn higher profits

through trade. It also has higher crew carrying capacity safeguarding your team against any calamities

that you might encounter.

Smaller ship travels faster and thus reaches the port early thus enabling you to buy raw materials at

lower prices. Reaching early also means you’ll be able to spend higher amount on promoting

products (because of higher no. days spent on the port).

Q: How long we have to play? Do we have to sit in front of screen continuously?

A: Each round has been allocated a day for submission of decisions. The time of submission within

the day is immaterial. The results will be generated at the end of that decision period (end of day) for

all the teams simultaneously.

Internet connectivity: This is very important for the game to run smoothly. If your connection

breaks or session times out then you need to login again in order to submit your decisions. Please

save your data often in case of poor internet connectivity.

Q: Can you explain about the cost of the crew?

A: Each Navigator and soldier has two cost components. A fixed cost is to be paid to hire every

crew member and a variable cost (per day) has to be paid to each of them for the duration of the

journey. Fixed cost is 4000 AU and Variable cost is 500 AU for Navigators and Soldiers.

E.g. If you hire 8 crew members totally then fixed cost would be 32,000 AU. Suppose you took 25

days for the journey then the variable cost would be 100,000 AU.

Marketer costs: The marketers also have a similar payment structure. You need to pay a fixed cost to

hire each marketer and a variable cost (per day) for the number of days on the port.

Q: Does an attack/calamity depend on the type of ship?

A: No, the probability of the attack depends only on the route chosen and does not depend on the

type of ship. Attack / calamity happening on one ship (team) are independent of other ships (other

teams) on that route.

Q: When can I know the results for each season?

A: Results of a particular season can be viewed when you log in to play the next season. To view the

results go to ‘TRADE’ section
‘Trade Book’. This shows both buying and selling product details.

The actual quantity sold is viewed under the ‘Actual’ column. The actual quantity bought is viewed

under ‘Quantity’ column.

Q: Why can’t I see any information in the paid information section?

A: This information is available from season 3 onwards. It consists of the previous season’s

decisions of the teams which are currently at your port.

Q: Do we have to reach back to Nansita?

A: No, Your journey ends at the last port on your route plan. At this port you only need to submit

selling decisions. The remaining inventory is liquidated at the prevailing buying prices at the port.

Q: Can there be multiple attacks, storms, shallow water in each route for my ship? Again, how does

that map to a number for loss/damage/slowdown

A: Yes, There can be multiple attacks on the route if the gods do decide to screw your team :)

If there is a pirate attack it causes loss of ship cargo only. If shallow water/storms occur they'll affect

your ship’s speed and will also cause damage to your ship.

In case of more than one attack, both ‘damage to ship/speed loss’ and ‘cargo loss’ will occur.

Q: Can i put in multiple sell order for same goods at different prices? For example, i entered two sell

orders for rice 100 units @ 1300 & 300 units @ 1000 with 1 marketer each. In the trade book it

appears as 400 units of rice @ 1000 & 2 marketers each. So how is this going to be treated?

A: No, multiple sell orders are not possible. Your decisions will be taken as what appears in the trade

book. So before setting sail, please check the trade book to confirm the order.

CLARIFICATIONS

1. Probability of calamity from Nansenburg to Niberia: The probability calculated at the end of

page 4 is of atleast one calamity occurring. The probability of no calamity occurring would

be (1 – 0.18)*(1 – 0.12)*(1 – 0.40) = 0.433

2. Ship Salvage value: The ship value depreciates by 5.425% every season. At the end of season

5, ship will be sold off at the book value.

We'll be having a practice round on Sunday from 12 noon to 1700 hrs. We have already communicated regarding this to all the colleges. The actual rounds will be starting on 8th Dec (00:00:01 to 23:59:59).

The registrations for Nautica V2.0 has been closed.

We got an overwhelming response for registrations.

On 7th of december we are having the Practise round so that all participants get a feel of the game, and prepare better for the battle!

The actual game begins on 8th of December and the practice round is not compulsory(obviously..)
